The 6th International Conference for Sustainable Globalization took place from January 12 th to 14 th in Kerala, India. After the COVID pandemic break, which allowed a virtual conference only organized by Ostfalia University (Dr. Hedda Sander) in 2022, this conference was again a face to face event, but this time with hybrid attendance and streaming options. This way the conference tried to set a best practice example on how to organize a conference sustainably with regard to travel expenses especially for young students participants as well as regarding a contribution CO 2 footprint reduction while still maintaining a lively scientific exchange and discussion between all delegates.
The conference was organized by Dr. Abey Kuruvilla (University of Wisconsin at Parkside) as Program Chair, Dr. Robinet Jacob (Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India) and Dr.Gishan Sumanasiri, (American International Campus AIC) as organizational chairs and Dr. Hedda Sander (Ostfalia University, Center of Scientific, Interdisciplinary Risk and Sustainability Management) as review chair. The first days were filled with sessions in four tracks headed under the topics of education, innovation and entrepreneurship, tourism and economy and sustainability, environment and risk management. The special characteristic of the conference is to allow participants not only from scientific background, but also from the area of entrepreneurship and administration to exchange views and develop solutions for challenges resulting from development towards a more sustainable world. This approach has allowed for start-Ups to develop in the past or networking and best practice exchange between communities towards perceived challenges within the environmental field. This was aided for the first time by providing a Sustainability Award for Entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka within a prestigious Award Ceremony opened by the Minister of Finance, Sri Lanka.
Ostfalia presented four presentations within the educational and sustainability track. The first contribution within the educational track dealt with the topic of sustainability within transparent public communication ‚NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk): in Germany: Public Broadcasting as the Fourth Pillar of Democracy‘ by Dr.Hedda Sander, which received great international interest. Three more presentations offered by master students of the Center of Scientific, Interdisciplinary Risk and Sustainability Management of Ostfalia University dealt with topics prevalent within the EU Green Deal, which currently receives much international attention, and consequently were followed with much attention especially in a transitional country. Laurenz Licht presented a speech on ‘EU Green Deal and Greenwashing: A Risk for Communities and Organizations’, while Tomas Bretz presented the topic of ‘Climate Change Adaptation through Urban Gardening in Europa: An Option for Sri Lanka?’ and thirdly Lars Distelrath presented a topic on ‘Community Challenges and Opportunities in the Age of Climate Protection: Strategies, Finances and the Role of Carbon Tax and Sustainability Reporting’.
We look forward to the 7th International Conference for Sustainable Globalization in January 2025, save the date.
