How and why was this committee established?

The internationalisation committee was established with the aim of supporting university members in initiating internationalisation measures in cooperation with the International Relations Office and the International Students‘ Office. The aim is to strengthen international research activities and to promote the international mobility of teachers, staff and students through these activities. This  will increase the profile of Ostfalia in the international research area, to increase the competitiveness of graduates in a globalised labour market and to strengthen the performance of the university.

In May 2005 the first meeting of the internationalisation committee took place and in September 2005 the Faculty of Business presented its first internationalisation concept to the committee. Subsequently, all internationalisation coordinators jointly developed an internationalisation strategy for the entire university, which was approved in 2006. Currently almost every faculty has its own internationalisation concept. These concepts are, just like the university’s internationalisation strategy, regularly updated by the internationalisation coordinators.

What does the internationalisation committee do?

In addition to the further development of internationalisation concepts, the internationalisation committee meets twice a year to approve proposed measures for the internationalisation of teaching, studying and research.

What has the internationalisation committee achieved so far?

The internationalisation committee achieved

  • the development of a strategy for internationalisation
  • the creation of an internationalisation concept for the university
  • the creation of internationalisation concepts for every faculty
  • the creation of a central fund for internationalisation based on the following pinciples:
    • 50% funding from the university
    • 50% from the faculty

and made it possible to organise numerous student field trips. It has contributed to the expansion of the Ostfalia’s range of English-language courses and has enabled students to obtain double degrees. As a result, the Ostfalia’s teaching has been improved, contacts with partner universities have been maintained, research cooperation has been initiated and intensified and students have been made more aware of international contexts.
