Institutes at the Ostfalia Faculty of Automotive Engineering
Institute of Automotive Manufacturing Wolfsburg (IFBW)
Founded in 1988, as a new branch of the Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel University of Applied
Sciences, the Institute of Automotive Manufacturing Wolfsburg educates young engineers using
a hands on, research oriented approach.
The automotive industry is facing new challenges, due to regulatory and societal shifts in
demand for individual mobility. For this reason, we teach our students important concepts beyond
standard engineering courses, including corporate and human resource management. We also focus on
soft-skills and presentation techniques.
Institute of Recycling (IFR)
Since its founding in 1991 the Institute of Recycling has become one of the largest research
Institutes at Ostfalia. The Institute consists of over 1000 square meters of Technology and
Laboratory space, including a “Machine Park”.
At the Institute of Recycling, researchers are looking for new and innovative ways to recycle
complex plastics and composites.
In 2016, the Institute developed a new Bachelors Degree called Material and Technical Design.
The Bachelor was offered to students starting in the winter semester of 2017/18, and has become a
popular choice among applicants. This course of study combines Science, Technology, Design and
Diversity into one degree.
Our research topics flow into the Composite Trends in Automobiles Convention, which takes
place every two years.
The Institute of Recycling will continue to develop, adjusting our research and teaching
programs to accommodate the newest trends in the automotive industry.
Institute of Automotive Systems and Service Technologies (IFST)
The institute of Automotive Systems and Service Technologies is a modern Service Provider at the
Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfsburg.
Software and electronics are playing an increasingly large role in modern Automobiles. Over
90% of recent innovations in the Automobile Industry are defined by electronic components. These
developments continue to increase the need for engineers capable of software development.
The Institute for Automotive Systems and Service Technologies is responsible for the
inclusion of software engineering into the many degrees offered by Ostfalia’s automotive
engineering faculty.
This has led to the creation of the bachelors degree in Automotive Technology and Computer
Science, also offered in cooperation with several major corporations in the Automotive industry.
These partnerships provide students with Internships and Training that take place alongside
their studies.
Our students leave the Institute well prepared for their future careers. Our faculty members
possess the necessary level of industry experience, as they have all worked in the automotive
industry, or on major research projects.
We are also responsible for academics related to Mathematics, Electronics and Computer
Science across other faculties.
