German courses for refugees

All refugees can participate in the German as a Foreign Language (Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF)) pre-course in the winter semester.  To begin the process, set up a brief consultation with the lecturer offering the course. They will then be enrolled as a guest student. The pre-course takes place two weeks before the start of the winter semester and is usually offered in the morning for five hours (Monday-Friday).

After consultation with the respective lecturer, it is also possible to participate in the semester-long course for German as a Foreign Language, in which participants can learn German together with international students. German courses during the semester

At the same time, as guest students, they can also attend a variety of semester-long lectures. These courses are usually offered to international students (incomers) who study for one or two semesters at Ostfalia. However, because these courses are usually offered for only four hours, a visa cannot be issued for participation in the semester-long courses.

Please note that the offered German as a Foreign Language courses depend on the language level of the incoming students, so all levels (A1 to C1) may not be available.

To study at Ostfalia, all potential students need to participate in the German Language Examination for University Admission course (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH)) and must successfully pass at the DSH-level 2 (minimum of 93.5 points from a possible 140 points).  This is regulated on the following website, DSH courses and examination.

If guest students can prove that they receive benefits according to German Social Code (Sozialgesetzbuch (SGB)) book 7 or book 2, paragraph 9 subsection 1 (§ 9 Abs. 1, SGB XII or SGB II), the guest student fee can be waived. More information about the fees can be found here, Guest auditor fees.
