Even though the core topic is "water", the complex field of ecosystem research cannot be viewed in isolation. In order to obtain a holistic picture, the CHH also addresses the fields of climate and environment, as these are directly linked to the core topic of health and hydrosystems. In line with the specialist expertise of the founding members, the current research profile of the CHH is defined as follows:

• Further development of (waste)water monitoring and wastewater-based epidemiology
• Analysis of hydrological extremes such as floods and droughts and development of adaptation strategies
• Securing the water supply through concepts for sustainable water management
• Generating environmental databases using innovative technologies
• Use of conventional models, AI and remote sensing for optimized water protection
