In the degree program “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” students have the choice between three disciplines:
The study discipline Automation covers the key fields of Control Systems and Automation Engineering, and is centered around process and factory automation. With us you will learn to develop and to implement automation-solutions for the most diverse technical systems. We will make you familiar with computerized modeling and simulation, and show you the relationship to the practical application of regulation, management and monitoring of technical processes. You will develop detailed knowledge of electrical drive systems and power electronics. The ability to deal with software technologies for real-time systems, Programmable Logic Controls and instrumentation and controls strengthens your profile as an automation expert.
How can energy be transported to consumption centers over long distances, safely and without loss? How can energy be gained from the wind and the sun? Electrical engineers are contributing to the delay of the climate change, and the protection of the environment. The study discipline Electric Mobility and Energy Systems conveys professional knowledge concerning both conventional and renewable methods of power production and makes students familiar with intelligent systems of energy distribution and use. Electric Mobility is closely related to the field of renewable energy. A million electric automobiles will be driven on the streets of Germany by 2020. Long term – in around 40 years – fossil fuel in city traffic, that is, automobiles with conventional motors, will be substantially replaced. Electric Mobility is thereby a key technology. Key topics regarded in the degree course are battery systems, charging stations (automobiles), vehicle concepts, power electronics and the combination of electric and combustion engines of hybrid cars.
How does a smartphone function like a game console? As a student in this degree course, you will be able to understand and develop modern technology. Consumer electronics, mobile communications and computer devices and networks all belong to this field. The study discipline Information Technology analyses all fundamental topics of telecommunications like the conditioning, processing and analysis of information and its descriptive signal. Modern transmission methods through radio signals, electric lines or fiber optic cable are especially important in High-Frequency Engineering. Communication Systems handles topics starting with network configuration through to multimedia data transfer. An important emphasis of this discipline is represented by mobile and computer communication, and the necessary hard- and software.
