Around 60 students and employees of Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences took part in a second tree planting campaign on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in cooperation with the Rittergut Lucklum and the Stiftung Zukunft Wald-Foundation. 1650 trees were planted on an area in the Elm; in the future, they are to form a forest in combination with natural regeneration to form a climate-stable mixed forest. Students and employees of the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences took part in a tree planting campaign in cooperation with the Lucklum manor and the Future Forest Foundation and planted 1,650 trees in the Elm.

"We want to draw the attention of our students to the topic of sustainability and environmental protection and do our part for our environment as Ostfalia," says Ostfalia employee Peter Paas (former BELS student, LL. M.) , who was in charge of organizing the tree planting campaign together with Thomas Nass (BELS student), student-founder of the project.

"We think the commitment of Ostfalia and the students is great. Only together can we make a difference and ensure a sustainable future. Everyone can make a contribution. Here, many young people have committed themselves to the future of the forest - and therefore also to future generations," says Helmut Gockel, Managing Director of Rittergut Lucklum.

The campaign builds on a student-organized tree-planting campaign from last year and was officially continued and organized this year by the university's Knowledge and Technology Transfer department (WTT). The tree planting campaign is now integrated into the „University Transformation - Sustainable Ostfalia“ project (NachOs), which is driving forward the sustainability transformation of Ostfalia in the areas of teaching and studies, research, development and transfer, university infrastructure and governance.

In preparation for the campaign, the Lucklum manor provided an area in the Elm near Erkerode and prepared it for planting. The employees of Rittergut Lucklum also taught the volunteers how to plant properly.

And so, by the afternoon, Ostfalia students and staff, together with interested external participants, had planted more than 1,600 trees under supervision. The Stiftung Zukunft Wald-Foundation provided the volunteers with the necessary spades.
