Who are we and what do we provide?

The Centre for Modern Languages (Sprachenzentrum, in short: ZS) is a part of the Centre for General Qualifications (short: des ZAW) and was set up in 2006. It is one of the cornerstones of the university’s internationalisation strategy and offers courses in modern languages and intercultural competence.

The Centre for Modern Languages manages all of the university's foreign language courses and also offers courses and activities supporting the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the field of internationalisation.

More than a dozen modern languages are presently provided at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences.

This is what matters to us:

• Creating an environment which supports active language learning focusing on all fields of communication
• Offering a broad range of courses in different foreign languages and on different levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages which can be accredited as compulsory and compulsory elective courses.
• Courses are free of charge for both, students and staff of Ostfalia. Exchange students from Ostfalia’s partner universities can also participate free of charge (excluding DSH courses).
• Teaching English for Special Purposes (Business, Law, Engineering and Technology)
• Providing intercultural courses
• Modern language teaching
• Offering accredited language certificates
• Providing language (exchange) tandems
• Strengthening of online and blended language learning
• Cooperation with regional education facilities and language centres in Germany and abroad.
