The faculty of law or Brunswick European Law School (BELS) is one of twelve
faculties at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. Approximately 14.000 students are currently
enrolled at Ostfalia and study at the four campuses in Salzgitter, Suderburg, Wolfenbüttel and
Wolfsburg.
With about 1.300 students, BELS is the second largest Ostfalia faculty and the largest faculty at Wolfenbüttel campus.
Wolfenbüttel is located in Lower Saxony. It has 56,000 inhabitants and derives its special charm from the more than 600 medieval houses with extensive half-timbering, lots of small cafés, bars and boutiques. Only twenty minutes away from Wolfenbüttel by either bus or train is Braunschweig (Brunswick).
After its founding by Henry the Lion, the city of Braunschweig was shaped throughout the centuries by the Guelphs and the Hanseatic League. The Middle Ages can still be experienced in the winding alleyways of the Magni quarter with its small timber-framed houses or at Burgplatz square with its stunning historical buildings.
Today Braunschweig, with its population of around 250,000, is the largest city between Hanover and Berlin. It is an attractive city for shopping, has a lively cultural scene and is the centre of one of Europe’s strongest research regions. Everything is easy to get to by public transport. Quite a few Braunschweig's parks are within walking distance of the city centre and provide a quick escape from urban life and a moment of quiet, perhaps at the banks of the Oker river. Wolfenbüttel is also conveniently located close to Hanover, Berlin and Hamburg. All great destinations of their own if you are planning a day or weekend trip, these cities also have airports. This makes exploring Europe while studying at Ostfalia exceptionally easy.
18 professors, close to 30 research assistants and many lecturers with day jobs in big companies or law firms keep the teaching very up to date and practically oriented at BELS.
