Sprachenzentrum
Im Rahmen des Projekts Chinakompetenz an der Ostfalia bietet das Sprachenzentrum im Wintersemester 2021/22 die China-Tage an. Die Veranstaltungen finden online über BigBlueButton statt. Eine vorherige Anmeldung ist nicht notwendig.
Ziel des Projekts Chinakompetenz und der angebotenen Vorträge und Diskussionen ist es u.a. Studierenden, Lehrenden und Mitarbeitern der Ostfalia praktisch anwendbares, aktuelles Wissen über China zu vermitteln. China befindet sich seit Jahren in einem enormen Entwicklungsprozess und gewinnt international immer mehr an Bedeutung. Für eine erfolgreiche Einschätzung von Möglichkeiten und Herausforderungen bei einer Zusammenarbeit in Deutschland und vor Ort in China sollen hier Kompetenzen und Hilfestellungen gegeben werden.

Informationen zum ersten Vortrag von Jacob Mardell am 3.November 2021:
China is developing the world in its image through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a globe-spanning infrastructure program of century-shaping proportions. Since its launch in 2013, Chinas New Silk Road has captured the worlds imagination, but eight years on, the initiative is still misunderstood. Exploring the origins, underlying trends, characteristics, and motivations behind the BRI, the first question tackled in this lecture is simple, yet frustratingly difficult to answer: what is the BRI? After more than a year of travelling the BRI overland, I can share several conclusions about the initiative: context is everything; it is more ad-hoc and localized than popularly conceived; and it must be treated with a dual focus granular and conceptual.
In the climate of current geopolitical tensions, the BRI has emerged as a target of concern among the US and its allies, which have drawn up various plans to counter the initiative. After defining and exploring the BRI itself, the lecture will move on to the topic of alternatives to the BRI. Placing the initiative in the wider historical context of global development, we will explore Western criticisms of the BRI, and how connectivity has emerged as a major aspect of geopolitical competition in the 21st century.
The next question explored in this lecture is, what next for the BRI? With Chinas tied policy bank loan model on the wane, and the initiative increasingly couched in language of sustainability and high-quality development we have already entered the era of BRI 2.0. This section of the lecture will explore these developments, asking what part internal and domestic criticism play in the changing face of the BRI. Finally, we will turn our gaze toward the next five and ten years of the BRI, attempting to predict what role the BRI will play in global development and geopolitics moving forward.
